24. At the Annual Examination 52 boys were examined and 40 passed.

25. The health of the School was good, there being very few cases of sickness among pupils and staff.

26. A sucessful Sports Meeting was held in April, and great keenness was shown in the inter-house competitions conducted in basket ball and swimming.

27. Ellis Kadoorie Indian School.-Headmaster, Mr. A. White. Maximum enrolment 200. Average attendance 192 (187 in 1936).

32. Belilios Public School. Headmistress, Mrs. P. Y. Stark. During the absence on long leave of Mrs. Stark the school was in charge of Mrs. E. M. Clark.

35. 28 girls sat for the Education Department School Certificate (Class 2) Examination and 25 passed.

37. Central British School.-Headmaster, Rev. G. E. S. Upsdell, M.A.

38. From March 6th, 1937, Mr. Upsdell acted as Head- master of King's College and the School Was in charge of Mr. D. M. Richards, B.A.

39. Maximum enrolment 300. Average attendance 257 (247 in 1936).

40. Four pupils passed the Hong Kong University School Certificate Examination, 1 obtaining honours.

42. Three pupils passed the Cambridge School Certificate Examination. Walter Pryde won the Peace Memorial Scholar- ship.

43. The school won the Governor's Shield for the Inter- School Sports Colony Championship.

44. Kowloon Junior School-Headmistress, Miss M. Cooper, B.A.

45. Maximum enrolment 113. Average attendance 96 (94 in 1936).

46. 23 children were promoted to the Central British School.

47. Quarry Bay School. Headmistress, Miss K. M. Anderson. During the absence on long leave of Miss Anderson, Miss J. W. Buckwell was in charge of the school.

48. Maximum enrolment 102. Average attendance 80 (72 in 1936).

49. Miss Cotton was invalided in January after 13 years' service in the Department.

50. The schoo! won the Junior Schools Net-Ball Competi- tion.

51. Peak School.-Headmistress, Miss M. W. Newsholme. Maximum enrolment 83. Average attendance 65 (50 in 1936).

(b) Aided.

52. There were fifteen Grant-in-Aid English Schools. 7 for boys and 8 for girls, with a total of 7,219 children in attendance as compared with 6,706 last year. All these schools have Secondary Departments with the exception of two girls' schools one of which is a Primary School and the other for Infants only.

53. Grants were paid at the following rates viz., $40 in respect of Boys' Schools and $35 in respect of Girls' Schools. The Annual Reports by the Inspectors of English Schools show that satisfactory work is being done. Building Grants were approved by Government as follows: $10,000 to St. Mary's School, and $8,650 to Heep Yunn School.

54. A block grant of $6,000 was again made to Munsang College. Government pays an annual grant of $4,800 to St. Louis Industrial School which is conducted by the Salesian Institute.
